The elixir I made a few days before Christmas included cinnamon, a lemon, and turmeric in hot water; and a dash of grated ginger. Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 lemon
- 1-inch ginger, peeled and grated or diced
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1-1/2 cup water
Method:
- Juice the lemon and set aside.
- Finely chop the peel and place in a pot.
- Add ginger.
- Add water and bring to a boil.
- Simmer for 15 minutes.
- Gently press on the lemon peel and ginger root to release their nutrients.
- Remove from the heat and strain into a mason jar.
- Add cinnamon and turmeric
- Let cool with the lid ajar.
- Store in the refrigerator.
- Add one ounce to eight ounces of water.
Why did I end up tossing the juice without consuming any of it?
Sometime between my hustle of making it and bottling it, I learned how ginger should be stored. It should never be refrigerated. Did you know this? The same goes for garlic and onions since this encourages the growth of mold which is hazardous to our health.
My second attempt will be very soon, prior to the New Year.
