The long lost health elixir

The long lost health elixir

As Christmas was approaching last year, I had made a health elixir that included turmeric, ginger, and lemon. Then I decided to change it up after finding more information. I intended to make that updated version prior to New Years but things got a bit busy and I wasn’t able make that due date I casually set. If you want to read about it, you can do so here.

The lemons had been sitting idle at winter room temperature for three to four weeks and were wrinkling slightly. Put them in a water bath in the ‘frig when I discovered this. Finally got something going a few weeks ago. It’s a ginger lemon tea. This type of tea aids in digestion and also encourages weight loss when drunken on an empty stomach.

Valentine’s Day is approaching as this tea has become a part of my daily rituals, one of many. So, the final product was neither version one, nor two. It’s my version which is extremely simple. The recipe looks like this:

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • one lemon, wedged
  • ginger root, half an inch, grated

Method:

  • Combine ingredients in a sauce pan.
  • Squeeze the lemon wedges. Remove the seeds. Include the peel in the heating process.
  • Grate half a ginger root including the skin.
  • Heat on medium-high for 20 minutes.

Tip:

You can simplify this process further by using a crock pot. The minimum time for heating the liquid is about 45 minutes for it to get piping hot. The great thing about a crock pot is that it can sit for hours, on, keeping the tea nice and hot while we do other things. Whenever it’s time for some hot tea, it’s ready.

There are electric tea kettles for this purpose, however, they may not be able to sit idle while on for hours all day to keep that hot tea ready for consumption in an instant when we’re ready for a cup. In addition, a crock pot’s intended use is to cook food. Multi-purposing things in our household minimizes our clutter and consumption. Instead of two appliances, we have one.

If you want a few pointers about crock pots, you can get them here.
